Privacy policy

What the game and this site know about you, why, and what you can do about it.

Effective September 30, 2026.

1. Who we are

Don't Feed the Zombie is developed by HYDRA GAMES. For any question about your data, write to contact email (admin settings).

2. What the game collects

  • Profile. A random profile identifier the game creates on your computer on first launch, and the name you choose. Used to keep your character and stash.
  • Steam ID. When you sign in through Steam, the server verifies the sign-in with Valve and links your Steam ID to the profile. This protects the profile from theft.
  • Game data. Items and stash contents, raid results and an item operation log: what moved, from where and to where. Used to run the game and prevent dupes.
  • Connection data. Your IP address and network parameters are needed for the connection to work and to limit abuse. The IP address is not stored in the game database.
  • Crash reports. If the game closes abnormally, on the next connection it sends the end of its log to our server: where the error happened, the game version and the system details the engine writes to its log (for example, your graphics card model).
  • Server logs. Server events — joining and leaving, item actions, suspicious activity — along with your profile identifier and name. Used for support and fighting cheaters.
  • Voice. Relayed through our server in real time to nearby players and over the radio. We do not record or store it.

3. What the website collects

  • Forum account. Email, callsign and a password hash (we never store the password itself). The email is used to confirm the account and reset the password and is never shown to anyone.
  • Forum posts are public together with your callsign.
  • Cookies. dfz_s is the session identifier after you log in (30 days), dfz_lang remembers your language (one year). Your answer in the cookie prompt is kept in the browser’s localStorage, along with the site achievements and the raid simulator score; none of that is sent to us.
  • Technical logs. Your IP address appears in the web server log and is used for rate limiting; it is not stored in the site database.
  • Our own visit statistics. The site counts page views per day: country by IP address, site language, device type (phone or desktop) and the referring site. Instead of the IP it stores a daily hash of IP and browser that cannot be turned back into an address or a person; the next day the hash is different. This needs no cookies and no consent.
  • Visitor counters. Google Analytics 4 and Yandex Metrica turn on only after you press “Eat” in the cookie prompt. They count page views, rough geography and device type; Google Analytics anonymizes your IP address. The data goes to Google and Yandex and is handled under their rules. Without consent the counters are never loaded at all. Changed your mind? The “Cookies” link in the footer lets you change the choice at any time.
  • No ad trackers. Fonts and images are served from our own server.

4. What we don’t do

  • We don’t sell or rent your data.
  • We don’t put ads or third-party analytics in the game.
  • We never see payment details: purchases go through Steam.
  • We don’t record voice chat.

5. How long we keep it

  • Profile, items and raid results — for as long as the profile exists.
  • Forum account — until you delete it.
  • Server logs and crash reports — limited in size; old entries are overwritten in rotation.
  • Game database backups — the latest 60 snapshots; older ones are deleted automatically.

6. Who we share it with

  • Valve (Steam) — to verify your Steam sign-in.
  • Our hosting provider, whose servers run the game and the site.
  • An email service — only to send confirmation and password reset messages.
  • Google and Yandex — only if you allowed the visitor counters: they receive anonymized page view statistics.

Nobody else, unless the law requires it.

7. Your rights

You can ask what data we hold about you, have it corrected or have your profile and forum account deleted — write to contact email (admin settings) or delete the account in the forum settings. Deleting a game profile permanently removes the character and the stash. Your Steam account is managed by Valve.

8. Children

The game and the forum are not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes

We update this policy when the game or the site changes. The date of the latest revision is at the top of the page.
